Heading towards Vegas for New Years then off to Arizona.

On the 27th we meet up with our new friend Phoebe Kingscote from Power River with her 20 year old Canadian Stallion "Teddy". We headed across the US boarder at Sumas about 2:30 on the 27th. We had no problem with the horses going across. Our first night we did not go too far but wanted to get through the first mountain past. The first rest area was where we pulled over for the night. Fed the horses in the trailer and got to sleep early. We are staying at Easter Slope Ranch in Baker City tonight. Then on to Nevada tomorrow. The count down

Only 10 days until we leave for Arizona. I have been trying to get my camping and horses web site up to date. Everyday I work on a new Province or State with up to-date listings. Please keep posted on this web site. My plan is to have as much information as possible on it to make anyone camping with their horse well informed on what they need to get started. If you have a horse site or place to overnight a horse I can list it for as low as $25 a year. We are now getting over 100 hits a day. This web site is fast  becoming one of the most informative web site on the net for Traveling horsemen.

GETTING READY TO HEAD SOUTH

OMG - I just found some great info on camping in Oregon. I spent that last 3 hours updating the Oregon page on my web site. Have a look at the web site to view more info http://www.campingandhorses.com/oregon.htm

We are heading through Oregon on the 28th of December on our way to Arizona. I am counting the days. :)

THE COUNT DOWN

Well it is less then a month until we leave for Arizona.

Most people are rushing around getting ready for Christmas this time of year. Yes we are still getting ready for christmas but do we put a tree up? We plan to leave just days after Christmas to try and make it to the desert for New Years. Tree or no-tree ? I will still put some Christmas decor up anyway.

We have an appointment for the 19th for our horses to get the blood-work done for the coggins test and health papers. Horses have had all their shots . Dogs and cats have had their rabies shots. Ron has been working on the LQ horse trailer double checking everything is in fine working order.

I am hoping that 2 months of not working will help my poor shoulders out. God I hate getting old. I can hardly wait until we are under those beautiful coloured skys that make Arizona so unforgettable.

Riding in Arizona

Camping and horses

Hi my name is Kelly Allen.

I thought I would start blogging about our camping trips with our horses. In 2003 I had never even heard about taking your horses out of the show pen and taking them camping with you. I met my now husband Ron Stolp in 2003 he was a horsemen but unlike me had spent most of his riding out on the open range trail riding and doing overnight trips with his horse. I had spent nearly all of my past doing only the odd trail ride but mostly had been in the show ring. As far as camping I had done some with my parents but it wasn't really camping , big 5 wheel with a slide-out, hot & cold running water, a warm bed, shower, kitchen, bedroom etc. Camping with horses was a little different. Our first trip out we did not have a big warm 5th wheel or even camper we had a tent and a bumper pull trailer. It was fun but I have never been one for doing the tenting thing so being a little spoiled if we where going to continue doing this I needed to be a little more comfortable so we sold our bumper pulled trailers and bought a fancy new gooseneck trailer. Ron custom designed the front so we had a small Living-quarters area. This was more like it!! Camping with our horses has changed our lives. We have met some of our best friends out on the trail. We have done many trips around BC and even  south of the boarder in Arizona. In 2007 and 2008 we traveled to Arizona to camp with our horses and ride the foot steps of old cowboys from our past like Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp.

With this blog I plan on posting our next big adventure. The end of 2011 we are planning on heading south yet again to Arizona. Keep posted for some of our great trail rides.

In 2007 I also started the web site http://www.campingandhorses.com this website is to help people like ourselves find great places to go with there horses all over North America.
